Migraid -Migrations and Humanitarian Aid in Europe

Online workshop by the Maison d’Izieu for the Migraid project

As part of the Migraid project – Migrations and Humanitarian Aid in Europe (1918-1949) – Maison d’Izieu organised an online workshop for its partners on 15 February.
The about 20 participants are from the “Fundación Museo de la Paz de Gernika” (Spain), the “Fondazione campo da Fossoli”, the memorial Theresienstadt concentration camp (Czech Republic), the UNED University of Madrid (Spain) and the “Fondació Solidaritat ” of the University of Barcelone.

The UNED University of Madrid, supported by the European project “Europe for Citizens”, organizes the European project since 2019. It includes work and exchange sessions, as well as the creation of an exhibition entitled Women and Children in European Wars (1919-1949).

As it was not possible for the participants to come to the Maison d’Izieu because of the Covid-19 pandemic, a video call was organized. Dominique Vidaud, director and Marie Pellegrini, education officer of the Maison d’Izieu presented the memorial’s educational program, through a visit. Based on different documentary resources, the participants worked on multiple topics, like students who come to Izieu. Then, using archive documents, Dominique Vidaud retraced the career of two women, Sabine Zlatin and Léa Feldblum, focusing on their commitment to saving children during the war and to justice and remembrance afterwards.

After the two presentations, the participants had the chance to exchange and to share good practice advice with their colleagues from other memorials.

The next meeting is scheduled for 17 March 20221, for an online conference that was supposed to be held at the University of Madrid. The next visit will be organized in October in Guernica.
