ICEAH: Seminar at the Maison d’Izieu

From 19 to 21 September, the Maison d’Izieu welcomed the members of the ICEAH from Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In cooperation with the ICEAH – International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust – a dozen employees of the memorial of Auschwitz-Birkenau came to visit the Maison d’Izieu from 19 to 21 September. In return, a group of French teachers had already been to Poland to visit the sites of the memorial in autumn 2021.Thanks to its close ties with the director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial, Piotr Cywinski, who is also a member of the board of directors of the Maison d’Izieu association, the memorial-museum is encouraging meetings between the two organisations on issues relating to the memory of the Shoah.

All presentations in French were translated in Polish.

Program:

• Reception by Dominique Vidaud, director of the Maison d’Izieu
• Visit of the House and the permanent exhibition with mit Alexandre Nugues-Bourchat, responsible for Mediation and Education at the Maison d’Izieu
• Presentation of the archives and the temporary exhibition with original objects “Georgy, letters and photos from the Maison d’Izieu, from the archives Serge and Beate Klarsfeld”, available up until 30 September 2022, by Stéphanie Boissard
• Lecture by the historian Sylvie Altar “Being Jewish in the region of Lyon during the war”
• Presentation of the educational activities of the Maison d’Izieu through the workshop “How was written the History of the children of Izieu”, by Marie Pellegrini, education and research officer at the Maison d’Izieu
• Talk with Frederika Smetana, director of the documentary “Denise and Marco” about the story of her grandfather, a Jewish, Polish resistance fighter in France
